How to be a good developer

Firstly, i would like to make it clear that i don't actually consider myself an excellent programmer .You can rate me as an average coder and nothing more than that because i personally feel that a person keeps on learning every time.
However, you can still call me a better programmer than some folks out there, just because they are a bit lazy and they waste their time the entire day without bothering about programming.

So, before reading the tips mentioned below, i would like to mention here that i have learned all these lessons from some unsuccessful endeavors, which they wanted to practice, but they couldn't!

1. You need to decide that why would you like to become a good programmer:
Do you want to become a good programmer to find a good job, is it? Great! then i don't think that you will somehow make your mark because most of the programmers that i know were simply fantastic because they were passionate and they loved what they did.

You are just required to generate an idea and start coding it. Your dad might be having a car but, he won't allow you to experiment some tweaks in it because it can result in something really worse, but when it comes to computers, you are allowed to do whatever you want to, starting from making an antivirus to the installation of an operating system.

You can also start earning from it, if you start developing something extraordinary, that has never been made ever before.

2. Programming Languages:
Sometimes people evaluate a programmer by the no: of programming languages he knows and this is what the truth is because knowing a fair amount of programming languages is something outstanding and sometimes also very important.

It takes at least two years to get a full grip on ay programming language and a good programmer means that a person knows that where it can be used and where it cannot.

Do note that if you are starting to learn programming then you should learn C language first. Try buying a book named as "The C Programming language" written by Brian W Kernighan & Dennis M Ritchie. I hope that you won't ask me that who are these two fellows, "Google it; simple"!

The above mentioned book is not that easy but let me tell you people that it’s one of the best out there. It’s pretty much a small book, but yet very powerful. And the time you start thinking that this book is really tough then please don’t try spending any more time on your misplaced dreams and desires of becoming a programmer! I might be sounding a bit harsh here but this is what the reality is.

Sorry to tell you that there isn’t such a language available because every language is made for a specific purpose and this is how things are going to remain even in the future! Although , I can still recommend you few languages that I use myself namely Drupal 7 module , you can also find the examples of Drupal 7 code snippets on Jay Chen’s website and Drupal’s technology blog, other languages includes HTML, Java and c++.

Going the Distance: Social Media and the LDR

Managing romantic relationships and life direction can often be challenging; especially when the two don’t follow the same time line. I know this first hand because my high school sweetheart and I had to decide if what we had was worth maintaining across long distance while we explored our passions at different universities. We, like many optimistic couples, decided to take the plunge and we learned very quickly that we needed to discover the social platforms to support our distance and to keep us engaged. 

Texting kept us in the loop together easily with the convenience of a quick send on the go. It’s perfect for us to send off a short funny moment during the day and to plan our next longer chat. However, more than once we’ve gotten ourselves into a little hot water because written words, especially short bursts of them, can be read in too many different inflections. Suddenly a few tosses back and forth became a heated argument in one mind and a confusing banter in the other. When you don’t have a face to face interaction any time soon to clear up discrepancies the mind can wander.The key is to be strong enough in your relationship to ignore the doubts or worries and trust the good things until you have time to settle down, talk things out, and clear up the confusion. 

For us, long distance has strengthened trust and our personal sense of independence because when you don’t have the other person to lean on you learn to be stronger in yourself. Now, that doesn’t mean that loneliness isn’t blinding sometimes. When I need to see his face Skype is our go-to application. There’s something really powerful about making eye contact and knowing that if one of us is a little distracted we can at least see why. Direct phone calls are more consistent with no internet lags and 

screen freezing but after an hour or two the heat on your ear can be unbearable. Plus, it’s fun to use both so we never get into a routine. There are pros and cons to each method but the result is basically the same. Clear communication is the name of the game. 
To keep the relationship light and make an attempt at the couple’s ‘busy work’ that the LDR lacks it’s a good idea to develop a hobby together or play a game. My fiancé and I have tried player versus player apps that we can play together through the day. We’ve found some that entertain us for a while but none that stay on our radar for long. Another fun activity can be virtual movie night where you Skype together and press play on Netflix at the same time. This gives a couple the opportunity to fulfill the need for basic chatter without running each other’s ears off. 

Long distance is hard, but far from impossible. It comes down to each member of the relationship choosing to put in the work to commit to maintaining happiness. Living in the digital age makes preserving closeness over geographic distance much easier but we still have a long way to go. 
This is an important area that’s worth investigating and developing because couples need, and deserve, a communication platform specifically to compensate for long distance relationship needs. 

Long distance couples will always have a challenge until we can create a virtual space that provides the same closeness as in-person communication. Recently I have been reading things about a tech startup, called Kiiroo that would actually let you touch your partner over the internet. I am very eager to see how they will approach the transmission of the experience of passion and intimacy over an inanimate structure like the world wide web. I might be skeptical about new technologies but I believe that someday we will arrive there. For now I’m willing to fight through the occasional struggles because I know that my future husband is worth it and we’ll be back together, permanently, so soon.

The success story of OnlineClock.net is not less than a bumpy ride. It was created by Thomas M. Churm, in March 2006, who was living a life of an average Joe until one night, when he was lying in his bed, suffering from insomnia, and suddenly jumped with joy, and scribbling something on a piece of paper, which said, ‘’Create website to use as an alarm clock.’’ And so it began, and OnlineClock.net soon manifested into reality, when he woke up the next day reading his note.

Later the following year, OnlineClock.net got listed on the first page of Digg.com, we was indeed a major breakthrough. During the same month, they got kicked off their very first web hoster due to heavy traffic, so they finally got their own dedicated server. In early 2007, the site began to expand as they add more clocks, online stop watch and the famous countdown timer.

In November, 2007: while Thomas was on his vacation in Canary Islands, the web host of their dedicated server failed and he had to switch the host urgently. After almost a year, the owner of a competitor website had threatened him with Serbian Mafia, to which he reacted by notifying the authorities. After a couple of months, he decided to join various social networking websites, such as, Facebook and Twitter, and even published his own blog, which was called The Alarm Clock Blog.
OnlineClock.net reached it’s another milestone the next year in June 2009, when they created their own Online Timer, which got really popular within a few days! Microsoft’s researchers write that “privacy concerns aside, these moods would enhance social networks by allowing users to share mood states automatically,” which would help users “know better how and when to communicate with others.” For instance, the researchers say that “when text messaging an upset boss, a user could be cautious of speaking brashly,” which is certainly helpful for people who regularly send angry, profane messages to their employers.

HTML5 is overhyped, no threat to native iOS and Android apps

Industry watchers often debate whether or not HTML5-based Web apps pose a threat to the massive ecosystems that revolve around native apps. According to a recent report from market research firm Strategy Analytics, the answer is a decisive “no.” Apple (AAPL) andGoogle (GOOG) have built huge economies that revolve around mobile apps, and analysts are always looking for a read on how modern Web standards like HTML5 might impact native apps. Strategy Analytics’s report suggests that rather than replace native apps, the advent of standards like HTML5 will result in the creation of a third category of hybrid apps.

“HTML5 is not the future of apps. While developers dream of ‘write once run everywhere’ the fragmented support for and limited APIs within HTML5 make this impossible,” said Strategy Analytics analyst Josh Martin. “In fact, we predict the hybrid app is the future. Existing business models are protected, differentiation among and within ecosystems remains intact, and consumption continues unabated. The end result is the continued dominance of iOS, Android, and increasingly Windows Phone.”

The firm notes that services such as PhoneGap, Sencha, Brightcove and Marmalade already allow developers to combine native app development with open Web standards like HTML5.
